Ivanka Trump Says Her Father 'Will Accept the Outcome' of Presidential Election
Trump's elder daughter said he will "accept the outcome either way."
— -- Ivanka Trump, the elder daughter of Republican nominee Donald Trump, said he will accept the result of the presidential election “either way,” despite repeatedly saying that this year’s vote and the system in general are “rigged.”
“He’ll either win or he won’t win, and I believe he will accept the outcome either way,” Ivanka Trump said today at the Fortune magazine Most Powerful Women Summit.
“My father is in this to win it, and you know I’m not interested in talking about alternative outcomes, and of course I think my father will always do the right thing,” she said.
Donald Trump has repeatedly argued on the campaign trail that the election is “rigged” and called on his supporters to be vigilant watchers at polling stations next month.
When asked if she agreed with her father’s view that this election is “rigged,” Ivanka Trump responded that the media “has been vicious” and “bias is very, very real.”
She also dismissed the notion that she’s a campaign surrogate for her father. She delivered a speech at the Republican National Convention in July, appeared at a few campaign rallies and in a few campaign ads but has largely focused on her career and being a mother to three children.
“I’m a daughter. I don’t express my views on policy, except child care,” she said. “I’m not the campaign mastermind as people love to portray and speculate.”
Ivanka Trump was also asked about the 2005 video released almost two weeks ago in which her father can be heard making crude comments about women and saying he can do “anything” he wants to them.
“That’s not language consistent with any conversation I’ve had with him or conversation I’ve ever heard, so it was a bit jarring, and he was very sincere in his apology,” she said.
Ivanka Trump revealed that she found her father’s comments “offensive.”
“When things have happened in this campaign that are uncomfortable for us as a family — things said that are mischaracterizations, false and not consistent with his intent, a statement he’ll make or — we talk about it.”
“He’s his own man. I’m my own woman. I have opinions, and I express them to him,” Ivanka Trump said, adding that she’s not “sheepish” about sharing her opinions with her dad.
