Kasich: Trump Would Spend His First 100 Days as President Looking for the White House Bathrooms
The Ohio governor made the jab while campaigning in Brooklyn, New York.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- While campaigning in New York City Thursday, ahead of the April 19 New York primary, Republican presidential hopeful John Kasich said his GOP rival Donald Trump would have a steep learning curve as president.
“He’ll have to spend the first 100 days trying to figure out where the bathrooms are [in the White House],” the Ohio governor said at a town hall-style meeting in Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge neighborhood.
The comment capped a week that saw Kasich grow bolder in his direct criticism of Trump, who is leading the race for the GOP presidential nomination.
Last Thursday, Kasich said Trump was "not prepared" to become president. He told ABC News that the billionaire businessman had made "a panoply of mistakes and outrageous statements" and that Trump's comments on a slew of issues, from abortion and NATO to the Geneva Conventions and the Supreme Court, had driven him to grow more aggressive in his attacks.
At the Brooklyn event, Kasich was asked by an attendee how he would sway supporters of Trump and the third remaining candidate, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), both of whom have amassed hundreds of more delegates than Kasich.
As he has said more frequently in recent weeks, Kasich made clear he thinks those who back Trump could easily switch to him if they could only learn more about him. The voters who like Trump, he said, have concerns about their economic situations -- problems he said he had a record of allaying at the helm of Ohio's executive branch and as a member of Congress.
