Obama Laughs Off Trump's Proposal to Give South Korea and Japan Nuclear Weapons
Obama said world leaders are expressing concern over the U.S. election.
— -- Wrapping up a two-day nuclear summit hosting more than 50 leaders from across the world, President Obama laughed off a recent foreign policy proposal from Donald Trump to arm South Korea and Japan with nuclear weapons.
"The person who made the statements doesn't know much about foreign policy, nuclear policy or the Korean Peninsula, or the world generally," Obama said Friday, not identifying Trump by name.
The president has said in the past that various world leaders have approached him privately with concerns about proposals and the tone put forth by Trump during his campaign.
"It came up on the sidelines, I've said before, that people pay attention to American elections," Obama said. "Even in those countries that are used to a carnival atmosphere in their own politics want sobriety and clarity when it comes to U.S. elections."
Obama, who will not make an endorsement in the Democratic primary, has said several times in the past that he does not believe Trump will win the presidency.
