President Obama Channels Frank Underwood of 'House of Cards'
“Frank learned it from me,” Obama said in Underwood's signature accent.
-- President Obama channeled one of Washington’s most sinister figures today: ruthless “House of Cards” President Frank Underwood.
“Hello, everybody. This is not Frank Underwood, this is Barack Obama,” Obama deadpanned in a “West Wing Week” video posted to YouTube today, aping Underwood’s trademark Southern drawl.
“Happy April Fools’ Day,” the president added, still in character. “Frank learned it from me,” he said of the character played by Kevin Spacey.
The video also included outtakes from past episodes of “West Wing Week,” the White House’s documentary web series, including footage of Obama’s making faces at the camera, grooving to some tunes on a couch in the Oval Office, rehearsing a swearing-in ceremony, posing for a presidential portrait – “I feel like the girl with the pearl earring” – and thanking stand-up comedian Zach Galifianakis for the “really neat” “Between Two Ferns” interview.
The outtakes prove that even presidents get the giggles sometimes:
“I’m feeling a little silly right now, so I gotta settle down,” the president says with a laugh, trying to compose himself. “Whew.”
