President Obama once again shunned traditional media to interview with legendary comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
Seinfeld’s hit comedy Web series, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” brought the funnyman to the White House, where the president joined him in a 1963 Corvette Stingray and rode around the South Lawn.
“This is a sweet car,” Obama says when he sees the Stingray. “This is beautiful."
The duo get in the car and Seinfeld tries to drive out the White House gates, telling a Secret Service officer they’re just going to get coffee. The officer doesn’t budge and orders them to back up.
Seinfeld pulls around to the South Portico and they opt for a lap in the Beast, the president’s customized Cadillac limousine.
Later, they have a cup of coffee in the White House and continue the interview. Seinfeld asks what activity politics is most like, and Obama answers that he believes it’s most like football. “A lot of hitting,” Obama says.
After they finish their coffee and begin wrapping up the interview, Obama and Seinfeld go back to the Corvette Stingray and the president takes a turn driving.
“I want to give you a shot to drive this car,” Seinfeld says.
“Let’s do this thing,” Obama says as he peels out. “Watch out people!”
They then try to leave the White House again, testing the willpower of a Secret Service officer.
“I bet if you talk to the guy, they’ll let us out,” Seinfeld says, encouraging the president. “Just say, ‘I’m the president’ and you’re going to have a quick coffee."
Obama recognizes the officer and asks, “Hey, Darrell, can you open this up?”
The officers stands firm and says, “I’m sorry, sir. I can’t allow it.”
“That’s unbelievable. Golly,” Obama says. “I knew that wouldn’t work.”
“You didn’t sell it,” Seinfeld complains.
