Rand Paul’s Wife Kelley Paul, the Ultimate Multi-Tasker

— -- When Kelley Paul first met her future husband, Sen. Rand Paul, she had no idea he was a doctor.

In fact, she thought he was still in college.

The two crossed paths at a backyard party in Atlanta in the summer of 1988. Rand was completing his rotation at Georgia Baptist Hospital and he quickly learned Kelley’s number by heart.

“He asked for my number at that party and I remember giving it to him and he didn't write it down, and he said, ‘Don't worry, I'll remember it,’” she said. “He called me the next day.”

The couple dated for two years, marrying in October 1990. They settled in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where they have three sons: William, Duncan and Robert.

Kelley speaks fondly of her role as her husband’s running mate, first for the United States Senate and now for the presidency. She notes that she is “more risk-averse,” but the campaigns “brought out that other side of me, and certainly opened up opportunities.”

Campaigning gave Kelley the opportunity to become a speechwriter, a political consultant, and an author. Last year, she published a book, “True and Constant Friends: Love and Inspiration from Our Grandmothers, Mothers, and Friends.”

Even with the hectic pace on the campaign trail, Kelley enjoys taking time for her hobbies. She likes to cook, finding it to be “very calming.” She’s an avid neighborhood bird-watcher, too.

The kind of birds she enjoys watching the most?

Bald eagles, one of which makes an appearance on the presidential seal.
