Rielle Hunter Says She and John Edwards Are 'Great Co-Parents'

— -- Rielle Hunter said she is "very, very good friends" with John Edwards, the former U.S. senator and Democratic presidential hopeful with whom she had an affair that ended Edwards' political career and resulted in the birth of their daughter, Quinn.

"It's good," Hunter said of her relationship with Edwards in an interview with ABC News' Amy Robach that will air Friday on "Good Morning America." "We're very, very good friends."

It was nearly a decade ago that Hunter, 52, and Edwards, 63, were embroiled in a sex scandal that began when Hunter, then an unknown actress and movie producer, was hired by Edwards to make a behind-the-scenes film of his 2008 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Hunter became pregnant with Quinn in 2007, but it was not until 2010 that Edwards publicly admitted to having fathered a child with Hunter. That same year, Edwards' wife, Elizabeth Edwards, died of breast cancer.

Edwards, a one-term North Carolina senator, was later indicted for allegedly using campaign funds to hide his mistress during the 2008 Democratic presidential race, but was acquitted on one count and a mistrial was declared on the other counts.

Hunter said today she and Edwards, who also has three surviving children from his marriage to Elizabeth, are "great co-parents" to Quinn, who is now 8.

"We have the same goals. We want the best for Quinn," Hunter said. "We get along great."

Hunter and her daughter have joined forces on a new children’s book, "Howie Do It - Finding Happiness Right Now." The book was written by Hunter and illustrated by Quinn.
