Sen. Richard Blumenthal breaks leg at UConn parade, will undergo surgery

He is expected to make a full recovery.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., suffered a broken leg Saturday at the UConn men's championship parade in Hartford, Connecticut, and will undergo surgery.

Blumenthal's injury occurred when another parade goer fell on him and he will undergo routine surgery on Sunday, Blumenthal said.

"What can I say, I love a parade! Thanks to Chris & everyone for the well wishes. I did indeed fracture my femur after a fellow parade goer tripped & fell on me during the parade today. Routine surgery tomorrow just to make sure everything heals properly. I expect a full recovery!," Blumenthal, 77, tweeted Saturday.

Blumenthal's tweet was in response to Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., commending Blumenthal resiliency.

"FYI after he broke his femur he got back up, dusted himself off, and FINISHED THE PARADE," Murphy tweeted. "Most Dick Blumenthal thing ever."
