South Dakota 2024 live election results: Trump projected to win
An abortion ballot measure is also projected to fail.
ABC News is projecting that former President Donald Trump will win South Dakota.
He would take the state's three electoral votes.
State significance
South Dakota has reliably voted for the Republican presidential candidate since 1968. Trump won the state by a nearly 30-point margin in 2020.
On the ballot, voters also decided on various propositions -- including one that would have enshrined in the state constitution a right to get an abortion, with restrictions.
South Dakota almost fully bans abortion. The abortion proposition, which is projected to fail, would have guaranteed abortion access to preserve the life and health of pregnant women, among other measures.
A ballot initiative to legalize recreational marijuana for adults is also projected to fail.
Counties are colored red or blue when the % expected vote reporting reaches a set threshold. This threshold varies by state and is based on patterns of past vote reporting and expectations about how the vote will report this year.
