Jenna Bush Fined, License Suspended
A U S T I N, Texas, July 6, 2001 -- A judge today ordered President Bush's daughter Jenna to pay $600 in fines for violatingdrinking laws.
Community Court Judge Elisabeth Earle also suspended Jenna'sdriver's license for 30 days and ordered her to perform 36 hours ofcommunity service.
Jenna Bush, 19, was not present at today's court hearing.Her attorney Bill Allison entered a plea for her of no contest to acharge of trying to use someone else's identification to buyalcohol at a restaurant while under the legal drinking age of 21.She had previously pleaded innocent.
For that citation, she was ordered to pay a $100 fine andperform the 36 hours of community service. Because it was hersecond offense, Earle ordered Jenna to pay an additional $500in fines. Her twin sister, Barbara, last month pleaded no contest tounderage possession of alcohol stemming from the same visit May 29to a popular Mexican restaurant. Just two weeks before that incident, Jenna Bush pleaded nocontest to separate underage drinking charges. She was ordered totake alcohol counseling and perform community service. Earle will submit information on her case to the Department ofPublic Safety for the license suspension, which will take effectJuly 18. Allison said his client was out of town. Community and municipalcourts allow an attorney to appear on behalf of the defendant.
