Texas 2024 primary results: Biden, Trump projected to win
Sen. Ted Cruz handily won the GOP nomination in his reelection bid.
President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump won their respective parties' presidential primaries in Texas on Tuesday, ABC News projects.
With 45% of the expected vote in, Trump romped with 76% of the vote. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley took 19% of the vote. Biden similarly trounced, winning 87% support with 43% of the expected vote tallied in the Democratic primary.
Sen. Ted Cruz also won the GOP nomination in his reelection bid, ABC News projects. Democratic Rep. Colin Allred won his party's nomination for the chance to unseat Cruz, ABC News also projects.
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee won the Democratic primary for her reelection bid. She recently lost a campaign to be Houston mayor before jumping back into the House race, which had already attracted Democratic contenders while she waged her mayoral bid.
With 67% of the expected vote tallied, the congresswoman led her nearest competitor 62-36.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. and closed at 7 p.m.
Absentee ballots had to be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the clerk by March 6.
The state allowed early in-person voting from Feb. 20 until March 1.

Texas has 161 delegates in the Republican presidential primary; there are 244 Democratic delegates.
Cruz, a former Republican presidential candidate, is vying for a third term. Democrats are hoping to unseat Cruz -- and nine candidates ran for the chance.
Thirty-eight House of Representative seats are up for grabs in this election.
Texas has 38 electoral college votes, the second most in the nation.
The state has been a crucial location over the last few years due to the rise in migrants who have been entering the U.S. The state has also been at the center of the ongoing abortion rights debate following a near ban on the procedure following the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade.
