Touring the Urban Farm at the Convention Center in Cleveland During the RNC
The farm at the Ohio Convention Center is home to chickens, hogs, bees and more.
-- The Real Farmville is an urban farm attached to the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, near where the Republican National Convention is being held this week.
There are bees, hogs, chickens and goats at the farm that spans a long wall outside the center. Levy Restaurants started the farm three years ago, when the convention center was built. The restaurant is the sole provider of food to the center.
The urban farm helps to start conversations among visitors about the "responsible sourcing of food," said Matt Del Regno, executive chef for Levy Restaurants at the center, and the person who came up with the idea for the farm.
The convention center focuses on environmental sustainability and green practices throughout the facility, according to general manager Mark Leahy.
"What this does is give [the sustainability theme] a personality, it's something people can look out the windows, or come down ... and really see what it's all about," Leahy said.
