Trump Says Biden 'Did the Smart Thing' by Not Running for President

BURLINGTON, Iowa— -- Republican frontrunner Donald Trump brought his message to Southeastern Iowa Wednesday telling a crowd of 2,500 that he doesn't think Vice President Joe Biden would have gotten the Democratic nomination and "frankly, I really want to run against Hillary."

“Unfortunately, I believe we're out of time; the time necessary to mount a winning campaign for the nomination," Biden said Wednesday afternoon in the Rose Garden, flanked by his wife Jill and President Obama.

Referring to the world as a “tinderbox", Trump attacked Clinton's record and explained to the crowd why he wants to face her.

"You know, when you have a baseball team or a football team, you sort of get your heart set on something," said Trump. "That's the one we want to go against because you go against that record....we’re going to win, we’re going to win big."

Making his second visit to the eastern section of Iowa, Trump touted his climb in the recent ABC News/Washington Post poll showing the frontrunner with a commanding lead of 32 percent, with former neurosurgeon Ben Carson in second place with 22 percent.

A large portion of the crowd was from out of state, including Wisconsin, Missouri, and Illinois. Nescha Dixon of Hannibal, Missouri drove two hours to see Trump.

"I can't believe I'm in the front row. I hope I don't have a heart attack. I didn't dream I would be this close," Dixon told ABC News.

Dixon says she's on the fence about Hillary Clinton.

"Hillary is anti-gun and with the Benghazi stuff, she seems shady," she said. "I like Trump's ideas and I think he would secure the United States from ISIS."

Clinton is facing questioning about the Benghazi attacks Thursday and has denied wrongdoing.

Diane and Larry Baker, of Burlington, IA said they heard about the soldout rally from their local newspaper and like Trump "because he's not a politician." But, the Bakers said their still shopping for a candidate.

"I'm not sure if I'm going to vote for him because you can promise the world, but we'll see what happens.”

The real estate mogul will be making his first trip as a candidate to Florida this weekend, a stop in Miami Friday night followed by an afternoon rally in Jacksonville Saturday. Trump will return to Iowa next Tuesday, a day before the third GOP Primary debate.
