Trump Draws Boos for Calling Rubio 'Clown' at Value Voters Summit
Presidential hopeful Donald Trump drew boos and a standing ovation.
-- Donald Trump earned a round of boos when he attacked fellow Republican candidate Marco Rubio -- calling him a "clown" -- at an event Friday for conservative, faith-based voters.
“I’ve been so nice to him. I’ve been so -- but he’s in favor of immigration,” Trump said at the Value Voters Summit, before quickly moving on.
The audience had heard Rubio speak just two hours earlier and gave him several rounds of enthusiastic applause.
However, Trump also earned himself some laughs and applause from the audience for comments he made about Christmas. Although fall is only two days old, Trump is already turning to the holiday, lamenting the use of "Happy Holidays" instead of “Merry Christmas” and saying he will bring back “Merry Christmas as President of the United States."
"The word “Christmas” -– I love Christmas...And you know, other people can have their holidays, no. But Christmas is Christmas," Trump said.
“Remember the expression ‘Merry Christmas’? You don’t see it anymore. You’re going to see it if I get elected, I can tell you right now. I can tell you right now,” he said.
While the real estate mogul railed against Washington dysfunction and undocumented immigration, he also touted his Christian faith, holding his personal Bible up high for all to see.
“Most importantly, I brought my Bible,” Trump opened with to roaring applause. “And, you know, it’s First Presbyterian Church, Jamaica. And this was written by my mother with my name, with – it was a long time ago – with my name, with my address, with everything. In case I lost it, somebody would return it.”
He again touted it on the way back, holding up his Bible and saying, “this is the key.”
