Vice President Joe Biden: 'I Would Like to See a Woman Elected'

However, Biden has refrained from endorsing a candidate for president.

"This country's ready for a woman. There's no problem. We're going to be able to elect a woman in this country," Biden said.

Asked if he would like to see a woman elected, Biden replied, "I would like to see a woman elected."

An aide to Biden quickly chimed in, saying, "That's it," but the vice president elaborated, explaining that he will not offer an endorsement in the 2016 race. (A separate aide to the vice president has since clarified to ABC News that the verbal cue had nothing to do with the nature of the question, but rather was about keeping Biden on schedule.)

Vice President Biden pondered a run for the White House last year but ultimately opted against it, citing concerns about the stress it might place on his family following the loss of his son Beau last summer.
