West Virginia 2024 live election results: Trump projected to win, Justice flips Senate seat for GOP

Donald Trump is projected to get the state’s four electoral votes.

Republican Jim Justice is projected to win the race for Sen. Joe Manchin's seat, flipping the state and potentially impacting which party will gain control of the U.S. Senate.

The winner of the presidential race in West Virginia receives the state’s four Electoral College votes.

State significance

West Virginia has voted for the Republican candidate for president since 2000. Trump won the state in 2020 by over 30 percentage points.

Manchin, an independent who won in the state as a Democrat, decided not to run for reelection. Justice, the incumbent governor, faced Democratic candidate Glenn Elliott and Libertarian candidate David Moran in the Senate race.

Given Manchin’s retirement, his Senate seat -- once in Democratic hands -- was anticipated to flip to Republican control, which has implications for which party will win control of the U.S. Senate.

Counties are colored red or blue when the % expected vote reporting reaches a set threshold. This threshold varies by state and is based on patterns of past vote reporting and expectations about how the vote will report this year.
