— -- “THE LAST ONE TO SEE THEM,“ a Collaboration with USA TODAY NETWORK, Airs Friday, July 29 at 10pm ET|PT on ABC

One woman dead, and two missing. One man with three stories. A murder case 54 years later. “20/20” collaborates with The Clarion- Ledger, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, to investigate Felix Vail, the man accused of murdering his first wife, Mary Vail, in 1962 and the other women in his life, Sharon Hensley and Annette Craver, are gone without a trace.  Next month, after five decades, Felix will stand trial for the murder of Mary. “THE LAST ONE TO SEE THEM” airs on “20/20” on FRIDAY, JULY 29 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT) on the ABC Television Network.

ABC News Correspondent Jim Avila travels with Jerry Mitchell, an investigative reporter for The Clarion-Ledger part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, following this shocking and harrowing case. “20/20” speaks with Janet Vail, the widow of Felix’s son; Will Horton, Mary Vail’s brother; and Mary Rose, Annette Craver’s mother.

The prosecution will use evidence from Mitchell and private investigator Gina Frenzel and credits Mitchell’s perseverance for helping to get the case to trial. In a rare legal decision, the prosecution will be allowed by the court to present evidence in this case from the disappearances of Sharon and Annette.

This hour-long investigation includes audio recordings of conversations between Felix and Frenzel and recordings from witnesses Mitchell located who claim he confessed to murder.

Felix claims his first wife, Mary, accidently drowned in the Calcasieu River when they went fishing one evening. The last time Sharon spoke to her family was to tell them she and Felix were heading down to Florida. In a letter to her family one year later, Felix claimed that Sharon decided to sail around the world with an unknown Australian couple. Annette’s mother received a call from Felix telling her Annette had gone to Mexico, and she was never heard from again.

“20/20” is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
