"World News Tonight with David Muir" is Averaging its Largest Overall Viewer Audience in 10 Years for the Season

ABC News’  “World News Tonight with David Muir” averaged 7.959 million Total Viewers, 1.888 million Adults 25-54 and 1.290 million Adults 18-49 for the week of October 5, 2015, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” is growing its overall viewer count for the 3rd year in a row, averaging its largest overall viewer audience in 10 years – since the 2005-06 season. “World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+1%). 

“World News Tonight” was the most-watched newscast on Wednesday (10/7/15), outdrawing “NBC Nightly News” by +176,000 (8.082 million vs. 7.906 million).

“World News Tonight” also ranked No. 1, beating “NBC Nightly News,” on Thursday (10/8/15) in Adults 25-54 (+84,000 – 1.933 million vs. 1.849 million) and Adults 18-49 (+115,000 – 1.377 million vs. 1.262 million).

In addition, “World News Tonight” is also narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” by double digits (-17% - 268,000 vs. 322,000), posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 7 years – since the 2008-09 season.

For the week, “World News Tonight” beat the “CBS Evening News” by 1.253 million Total Viewers, by 322,000 Adults 25-54 and by 255,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE:  “CBS Evening News” was retitled to “CBS Evening Nws” on Thursday (10/8/15) for NFL and the telecast was excluded from the averages.  CBS’ weekly averages are based on 4 days (Mon-Wed and Fri).
