"World News Tonight with David Muir" is Delivering its Highest Overall Viewership in 10 Years Season to Date

— -- ABC News’  “World News Tonight with David Muir” averaged 8.489 million Total Viewers, 1.937 million Adults 25-54 and 1.287 million Adults 18-49 for the week of October 26, 2015, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

“World News Tonight” is delivering its largest overall viewer audience in 10 years season to date – since the 2005-06 season. For the 3rd year in a row, “World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+1% - 8.116 million vs. 8.062 million).

“World News Tonight” improved on the same week last year in Total Viewers (+5% - 8.489 million vs. 8.112 million for w/o 10/27/14).

“World News Tonight” scored week-to-week increases (7.846 million, 1.737 million and 1.134 million, respectively, for w/o 10/12/15) in Total Viewers (+8%), Adults 25-54 (+12%) and Adults 18-49 (+13%), turning in its most-watched week in 7 months – since w/o 3/23/15.

“World News Tonight” slashed its week-to-week margins with “NBC Nightly News” across the board: Total Viewers (-94% - 17,000 vs. 276,000), Adults 25-54 (-82% - 41,000 vs. 227,000) and Adults 18-49 (-57% - 116,000 vs. 268,000).  “World News Tonight” marked its closest Total Viewers performance in 4 months and narrowest in the key adult news demo in 3 months – since weeks of 6/15/15 and 7/20/15, respectively.

“World News Tonight” cut nearly all its year-to-year Total Viewer margin with “NBC Nightly News” (-97% - 17,000 vs. 575,000 on w/o 10/27/14).  “World News Tonight” has narrowed its year-to-year Total Viewer margin with the NBC program in all 6 weeks of the season.

In addition, “World News Tonight” is narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” by more than half (-61% - 176,000 vs. 446,000), posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 7 years – since the 2008-09 season.

“World News Tonight” ranked No. 1 on Friday (10/30/15), beating “NBC Nightly News,” in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+373,000 – 8.122 million vs. 7.749 million), Adults 25-54 (+135,000 – 1.828 million vs. 1.693 million) and Adults 18-49 (+126,000 – 1.286 million vs. 1.160 million).  In fact, “World News Tonight’s” overall viewer margin stands as its largest single-day lead in 4 months – since 6/18/15, based on regular telecasts.

“World News Tonight” also ranked No. 1 on Tuesday (10/26/15), outperforming “NBC Nightly News,” in Adults 25-54 (+92,000 – 2.167 million vs. 2.075 million).

For the week, “World News Tonight” beat the “CBS Evening News” by 1.241 million Total Viewers, by 218,000 Adults 25-54 and by 84,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE:  “CBS Evening News” was retitled to “CBS Evening Nws” on Thursday (10/29/15) for NFL and the telecast was excluded from the averages.  CBS’ weekly averages are based on 4 days (Mon-Wed and Fri).
