WNBA PLAYOFF SCHEDULE

The best-of-three conference semifinals are a 1-1-1 format, with the better seed hosting Game 1 and, if necessary, Game 3. The conference finals, which use the same format, open Aug. 29. The best-of-five WNBA Finals are a 2-2-1 format and open Sept. 7.

WEST: (1) PHOENIX MERCURY VS. (4) LOS ANGELES SPARKS

The Mercury went 5-0 against the Sparks this season, with a 14.5-point average margin of victory in the series. However, three of the wins were by single digits -- including their most recent game: 76-69 on Aug. 16.

The Lynx won the first four meetings in their regular-season series, but the Stars got the last laugh. After losing by an average of 10 points over four games, San Antonio beat Minnesota 92-76 on Aug. 15.

EAST: (2) INDIANA FEVER VS. (3) WASHINGTON MYSTICS

In what might be the most evenly matched series in the first round, the Fever and Mystics split their four regular-season games -- with both teams losing each game on its home floor. Indiana and Washington also enter the postseason with identical 16-18 records.
