Alabama rallies around Cade Foster

— -- MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama fans and teammates have rallied around kicker Cade Foster.

Foster missed two field goal attempts and had a third blocked in Saturday's 34-28 loss to Auburn that likely doomed Alabama's national title hopes. The initial backlash of angry and sometimes threatening messages to Foster on Twitter turned supportive by Sunday.

A fan page titled "Bama fans supporting Cade Foster" was approaching 40,000 "likes" by Sunday afternoon. It included a message that negative posts would be deleted.

Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron called out fans who would blame Foster.

Love my team!! Salute to AU players Great program but let me say this we win & lose as a team. If u blame this on 1 guy U aren't a true fan!

McCarron said he spoke to Foster after the game, reiterating what he told other teammates about the hard-to-swallow defeat.

"I told him, 'Hold your head high,' " McCarron said. "It's one loss. We still have a chance to play for a BCS bowl game.

"Cade's a great kid. It wasn't all his fault. Other people struggled. I love him to death and I have all the confidence in him in the world that he could go out there right now and make the kicks. The one thing about him is he needs to keep his head high and be proud.

"Like I said, football is just a game. It's not life. Times like this people need to realize the sun's going to rise tomorrow."

Linebacker C.J. Mosley also called fans "fake" and urged his Twitter followers to "stop sending threats to my teammate."

Auburn won on Chris Davis' 100-yard return of a missed field goal attempt by Adam Griffith, who tried the potential game-winning 57-yard kick in place of Foster.
