What Athletes Eat: Gabby Douglas' Favorite Dinner

— -- Three years after capturing team and all-around gold at the 2012 Olympic Games, gymnastics superstar Gabby Douglas is back for more. The 19-year-old impressed with a second-place all-around finish at last month's U.S. Classic -- her first meet on American soil since the 2012 Olympic trials. She'll continue her comeback at the P&G Championships (U.S. nationals) this week in Indianapolis.

As Douglas looks toward the 2016 Rio Olympics, she is paying extra attention to what she eats in order to get the most out of her body. The Virginia native refuels after tough training sessions with proteins, veggies and some healthy carbs prepared by a very important member of her team: her grandmother.

Date and time: A Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m.

Place: At home in Columbus, Ohio

What I'm eating: Marinated and baked salmon, grilled asparagus, baked sweet potatoes and corn pudding

Whose recipe: My grandmother, Ms. Carolyn's. I'm still waiting for her to share her secret seasoning recipe!

Why I'm eating it: I like to eat healthy lean protein and complex carbohydrates after training and before competitions. I feel like it really helps my muscles recover after a grueling workout. Salmon and baked sweet potatoes drizzled with organic raw sugar is one of my favorite meals because it's light, but very filling. I love all kinds of veggies, too, including grilled asparagus sprinkled with a little sea salt and lemon juice. My grandmother makes the best corn pudding ever, which I treat as my dessert.
