Eleven awesome sports 'promposals' of 2016

— -- Being asked to prom just isn't what it used to be -- after all, the bar has been raised.

With the advent of "promposals," high school students across the country are finding innovative and over-the-top ways to pop the big question to their special someone.

The following features a collection of sports-loving, prom-going students who went to great lengths for the perfect pitch:

1. Here's at least one fan who isn't upset about J.J. Watt's social-media prowess. This Texans fan had a dream, a dream to have Watt deliver the ultimate assist in getting him a date. And what does any rational-thinking kid with a dream do? He tweets.

It worked. Not only did the three-time defensive player of the year agree, he documented the entire thing on his Snapchat account. JJ Watt: Wingman of the Year.

2. Speaking of wingmen, here's Chicago Cubs star Kris Bryant making it happen for a fan. Spoiler alert: She said yes.

3. Getting the attention of tennis legend Novak Djokovic and having him pop the prom question to the girl doesn't hurt, either.

4. Vinny Mutone showed up to a New York Rangers game with this sign directed at forward Mats Zuccarello. He got the stick and the girl.

Let's be honest, the stars clearly aligned for the guys above. So, what lengths do ordinary kids with extraordinary prom goals do to get a date? They get creative.

5. The attention to detail here goes unmatched. The date, the bridge, "Prom" on the back of the No. 16 jersey. Niners fans everywhere applaud you.

6. Andrew Luck jersey? Check. Andrew Luck pun? Check. This kid is going places.

7. When it comes to the Philadelphia 76ers, some people may have doubts. With this promposal, however? We can all agree to #trusttheprocess.

8. Now this ... this is impressive. Who can turn down a choreographed basketball routine from someone in a Kobe jersey? (And a vintage Kobe jersey at that). Mamba is proud.

9. Another pun. Oh, and we see you in that Raptors jersey. When The Six is behind you, nothing can stop you.

10. A "May Madness" bracket featuring Beyonce and Denzel Valentine? Bravo. If you don't say yes to this kid, we will.

11. And when all else fails, just go for it.  That's what Samantha Miller did.  She got a response from Kristaps Porzingis:

Rejection never looked so good.  She did, however, get a photo with Porzingis' father, which is basically the same thing.   Well ... maybe not, but it's still pretty cool.  It's 2016, girl. Shoot your shot.
