Fatal Fall at Atlanta Braves Game Ruled an Accident
Gregory Murrey was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.
-- The death of a Georgia man who fell from the stands at a baseball game has been ruled an accident, officials said today.
Gregory Murrey, of Alpharetta, Georgia, died Saturday night after falling from the upper deck into the lower-level stands at Turner Field, during a game between the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees, authorities said.
The cause of death is "attributed to Blunt Force Injuries of the Head and Torso" and the manner of death is an accident, the Fulton County Medical Examiner said today.
Toxicology results are pending, the medical examiner added. No underlying medical condition contributed to Murrey's death, the medical examiner said.
After the fall, medical personnel treated Murrey for about 10 minutes and applied CPR, police said, adding that Murrey, 60, was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.
The game was not delayed.
"The Atlanta Braves are deeply saddened by the loss of Greg Murrey at last night's game," the Braves said in a statement Sunday. "Greg was a valued and longtime season ticket holder and an incredibly passionate Braves fan. This tragic loss is felt throughout Braves Country, and the thoughts and prayers of the entire Braves organization continue to go out to his family and friends."
This was the third death from a fall at Turner Field in eight seasons.
