Jordan Spieth Focused on Winning the Masters When He Was 14 Years Old
Golfer discussed career hopes in 2008 interview.
— -- Jordan Spieth has been focusing on a Masters victory for a long, long time.
Spieth, 21, earned a commanding victory at Augusta National Sunday, tying the tournament record at 18 under par and becoming the second-youngest winner in history, behind Tiger Woods.
Despite strong performances from Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson, no one came within three strokes of Spieth.
"This was arguably the greatest day of my life," Spieth said following his victory. "To join Masters history and put my name on that trophy and to have this jacket forever, it's something that I can't fathom right now."
Spieth envisioned this moment since his teenage years, according to a 2008 interview by Dallas-based ABC station WFAA. Spieth, then 14, discussed his dreams along with longtime instructor Cameron McCormick.
"My ultimate goal when I came here, Cam asked me and I said that I want to win the Masters," Spieth said at the time.
Seven years later, Spieth was wearing his first green jacket, his entry into golf’s upper echelon confirmed.
