Minor League Baseball Team Takes 17-1 Lead and Still Loses
Clinton LumberKings scored 19 unanswered runs in massive comeback.
May 8, 2014 -- A minor league baseball team took a 17-1 lead Wednesday -- and still lost.
The Burlington Bees, an Iowa-based Class A minor league team affiliated with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, built the lead against the Clinton LumberKings on the strength of a fifth-inning grand slam by catcher Cambric Moye.
But somehow, the LumberKings -- affiliated with the Seattle Mariners -- scraped back. Six runs in the sixth. Five runs in the eighth.
Clinton, down four runs in the ninth inning, loaded the bases for Marcus Littlewood.
Grand slam.
The game entered extra innings with the score knotted at 17.
The teams didn't score any runs in the 10th or 11th innings, but in the 12th inning, Clinton scored three runs, capping the massive comeback for a 20-17 win.
