— -- My board this week includes all great players, but Rory McIlroy's performance at Hoylake has made most of them look very average.

On Saturday, McIlroy toyed with Rickie Fowler before closing with eagles at 16 and 18 for a 4-under 68 and a 6-shot lead heading into Sunday's final round.

McIlroy's play at Hoylake is reminiscent of many past dominant performances by Tiger Woods, who had a triple bogey and a double bogey on his way to a very forgettable 73 on Saturday.

Adam Scott World Ranking: No. 1 | Scores: 68-73-69

A 69 on Saturday gave the No. 1 player in the world a 6-under total for the championship. Ten shots back of the lead, the 34-year-old Australian will look back at the double bogey he had Saturday on the easy par-5 10th hole as perhaps the most costly mistake of his week.

Henrik Stenson World Ranking: No. 2 | Scores: 72-73-73

The 38-year-old Swede took his second 73 of the week Saturday. These are fine scores in tough, windy conditions, but Hoylake was surprisingly very permissible to good scoring. Stenson couldn't make enough red numbers in his third round to offset a double bogey and a triple bogey on his scorecard.

Justin Rose World Ranking: No. 3 | Scores: 72-70-69

Matt Kuchar World Ranking: No. 5 | Scores: 73-71-74

A 2-over 74 on Saturday made Kuchar's chances of a top-10 finish very difficult. He had four bogeys against just two birdies. His easygoing temperament and consistency weren't good enough to contend this week.

Jason Day World Ranking: No. 6 | Scores: 73-73-74

After a 74 on Saturday, the 26-year-old Australian is just ready to get back to the States to heal his injured wrist in time for the PGA Championship in a few weeks. He deserves some credit, though, for not quitting.

Tiger Woods World Ranking: No. 7 | Scores: 69-77-73
