No. 3 QB Tate Martell decommits from A&M, will 'reopen process'
-- Tate Martell, the highly acclaimed Las Vegas Bishop Gorman quarterback who backed out of a verbal commitment to Washington as a 14-year-old, has now decided against Texas A&M.
Martell, a junior ranked 73rd overall in the ESPN 300 and third among dual-threat quarterbacks, said in a Twitter post that he will look at other schools.
Martell had verbally committed to the Aggies in August after saying he had narrowed his final choices to Alabama, Michigan, Texas A&M, USC and Washington.
Because of his size and ability to improvise in and out of the pocket, Martell, who is 5-foot-11 and 188 pounds, has long been compared to former Texas A&M standout Johnny Manziel, and the Aggies capitalized on that when recruiting Martell.
Manziel was booked and released in Texas on Wednesday in relation to a misdemeanor charge stemming from a domestic violence complaint by his former girlfriend.
Martell has said he doesn't see himself as the "next Johnny Manziel."
