Lonely Olympians Looking for Love on Valentine's Day

Love is in the air in the Olympic village!

Feb. 14, 2014— -- Thousands of young, good-looking athletes are crammed together in the Olympics Village in Sochi on Valentine's Day today, giving a boost in activity to hook-up apps like Tinder and some last-minute Valentine's requests.

A speedskater is on a quest to ask actress Natalie Portman to be his Valentine. Athletes have reportedly jumped on the dating app Tinder, notorious for its tendency toward casual hookups. Speed skater Jilleanne Rookard smelled romance in the air.

More than 100,000 condoms have reportedly been distributed to athletes at Olympics Village, where athletes live in close quarters in dorm-style accomodations.

"It's like making the ingredients of a huge stew -- a stew of sexual ingredients," Dr. Judy Kuriansky, a sex therapist and clinical psychologist at Columbia University's Teachers College in New York City, told ABC News this week.

For some, though, the holiday was more wholesome. American skier Ashley Caldwell marked the day with her coach and with moguls skier Heather McPhie.

The speedskaters and the skeleton racers were getting all lovey-dovey, like U.S. speedskater Jessica Smith.

Fellow American speedskaterJoey Mantia made a Valentine's Day appeal to a special (married) lady who apparently has his heart.

Upon hearing she was shacked up, he turned his attention to another actress.

Meanwhile, bobsledder Nick Cunningham looks to be looking for love.

And Olympics figure skater Charlie White had his sights set on a somewhat ambitious goal.

Ice dancer Maia Shibutai tweeted about brother Alex looking lonely on Valentine's Day.

Who wants to be @AlexShibutani's #Valentine? He's kinda available. ??#ThisPictureWasPosedFor #LOL #Sochi2014 pic.twitter.com/ex5qSQIsBD

Meanwhile, non-Olympians didn't hold back with their Olympics Valentine's Day jokes. One Twitter user poked fun at NBC sportscaster Bob Costas, who has sat out of some Olympics coverage because of a case of pinkeye.
