Sources: Steven Matz to undergo season-ending elbow surgery

— -- New York Mets left-hander Steven Matz will have surgery to remove the bone spur in his pitching elbow, sources told ESPN.

Matz will not, however, need surgery on his shoulder, although the impingement remains an issue, according to sources.

The Mets have estimated a three-month recovery time for the elbow surgery. Matz has not pitched since Aug. 14.
