Volek appears ready for 5th start this season

— -- Tennessee Titans: Quarterback Steve McNair sat out another practice Friday with a bruised sternum and didn't try to throw even though coach Jeff Fisher said the injury is healing. The Titans aren't eager to push him to throw, either, although Fisher said McNair can if need be. "We just don't want to aggravate it," Fisher said. Backup Billy Volek once again took all the work with the first-team offense and seems poised for his fifth start this season. Fisher said McNair, listed as questionable on the injury report, will be a "game-time decision" before Monday night's kickoff with the Kansas City Chiefs (4-8). Washington Redskins: Running back Clinton Portis was fined $5,000 by the NFL for wearing a pair of red socks last week, violating the league's uniform rules. Portis wore red socks instead of the team's usual white in last Sunday's 31-7 victory over the New York Giants. Portis had one of his best games in the different attire, running for 148 yards on 31 carries. After the game, he predicted he would be fined, but he said he had to make the change because "if you're not looking sweet, you really can't play too sweet." Rookie safety Sean Taylor, Portis' good friend and fellow ex-Miami Hurricanes star, also wore red socks and was also fined $5,000. Taylor was fined an additional $7,500 for unnecessary roughness during a roughing the passer penalty in the fourth quarter. Buffalo Bills: Cornerback Troy Vincent could play for the first time in more than two months Sunday against Cleveland. Vincent tore cartilage in his right knee in the third game of the season. He had surgery and missed nine games. He practiced this week, and coach Mike Mularkey sounded optimistic about the possibility of him playing against the Browns. If Vincent is activated, he more than likely wouldn't start. Backup Terrence McGee has filled in well, making interceptions the last two games. Overall, McGee has three interceptions and two sacks, and has returned a team-record three kickoffs for touchdowns this season. Right tackle Mike Williams practiced Friday in a limited capacity for the first time this week after a knee injury last week against Miami. Mularkey said it will be a game-time decision whether Williams starts Sunday. Marcus Price would replace Williams if he is unable to play. Minnesota Vikings: Running back Moe Williams was listed as probable for this week's game against Seattle after missing practice with the flu. Williams, a short-yardage specialist who is tied for the team lead with two rushing touchdowns, is at least the seventh Minnesota player to catch the 24-hour stomach virus in the past month. Rookie end Kenechi Udeze fell ill Thursday, but was able to practice Friday morning. Cornerback Antoine Winfield (high ankle sprain) and linebacker Raonall Smith (concussion) officially remained doubtful on Friday's injury report, though neither will play. Nose tackle Chris Hovan, deactivated the last two weeks due to poor production, will start in the nickel defense Sunday, Tice said. Denver Broncos: A running back on the Broncos practice squad was cited early Friday for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Santonio Djuan Beard, 24, was stopped for a traffic violation and asked to take a voluntary breath test, Arapahoe County sheriff's officials said. Beard then was booked on an outstanding $200 bond warrant in Denver for third-degree assault and was released on a summons for driving under the influence, authorities said. He was released after posting bond. Details of the assault were not immediately available. Beard was previously arrested for DUI in 2001.
