11 Strange New Emoji and When to Use Them
Middle finger and downwards rocket are among new characters.
-- Lazy texters or people who truly need an icon to express their feelings now have 250 eclectic new emoji to choose from.
Those of you waiting for a "derelict house building" pictograph are in luck. Unicode, the computing industry standard for the presentation of text, introduced its updated list of icons by describing them with a few words.
It will be up to device platforms, such as iOS and Android, to create and implement the icons.
Think You’re a Talented Emoji Artist?
The list is mainly comprised of objects. Here's a look at some of the more bizarre choices -- and when they could be of use.
Downwards Rocket
Use this when your plans or dreams take an unexpected nosedive.
Man in Business Suit Levitating
For when you've had such a great day in the office, you feel like you could fly. Still missing, however: business lady levitating. We're waiting, Unicode.
Waving White Flag
Emoji are now helping the peace process. This one is perfect to send after a fight with a significant other or when you just want to tell the world: "I give up."
Studio Microphone
This clearly means a karaoke night invitation. Need we say more?
Weight Lifter
For when, "I can't. I'm at the gym," is just too tedious to type.
Chipmunk
Perfect for when you're stuffing your face with food, chipmunk style.
Floppy Disks
Unicode likes their old technology. Three varieties of floppy disks are on the list: black hard shell, white hard shell and soft shell. They're great for teaching kids born after 1995 a lesson about life before the cloud, when we had to save our PowerPoint presentations and book reports on big old floppy disks.
Anger Bubbles
Users will get two choices -- anger bubbles from the left and the right side. Why not use these as a tool to discuss politics? When a conservative irritates you, toss in an anger bubble coming from the right. When it's a liberal, shift left.
Dagger Knife
This one will pair well with the existing heart emoji.
Raised Hand With Fingers Splayed
This is the "Star Trek" hand. Perfect for telling your friends to "live long and prosper."
Middle Finger
