HP Vivienne Tam Special Edition Netbook
HP's Vivienne Tam Netbook adds to the wardrobes of the "techy fashionista."
Dec. 3, 2008 -- The words digital and fashion don't often go hand in hand but fashion-conscious highly mobile consumers will want to try on HP's Vivienne Tam Limited Edition Notebook for the holidays.
It was unveiled during Fashion Week in New York City where observers thought it was a purse, as opposed to the PC it really is. Tam is calling it a "digital clutch."
On the outside, it's a vibrant, red mininotebook computer with a peony-flower design to complement the fashion designer's Spring Collection.
On the inside, it sports a 10.2-inch screen, powered by Intel's Atom N270 1.6GHz processor. It runs Windows XP Home, has a 60GB hard drive and 1GB of RAM.
It also has an Ethernet jack, 2 USB ports, WLAN connectivity and a built-in webcam with microphone. At a little more than 2 pounds, it probably weighs less than my own pocketbook.
The mininotebook, some are calling them Netbooks, are smaller, lighter and less expensive than standard laptops, built with less processing power and typically, not as much memory or battery power. They're great for e-mailing, instant messaging, chatting, Web surfing and basic word processing.
On the flip side, they offer the smartphone user a break from thumb smashing and eye strain by providing a larger keyboard and screen. If your plane ride or outing is shorter than its battery life, it's a perfect solution.
So for the techy fashionista with a wardrobe full of red on her list, this Vivienne Tam Limited Edition might just click.
The HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Limited Edition is expected to be available in the United States in mid-December via http://www.hpdirect.com. It is expected to be priced at $699.
