Game Show Attendance Up

— -- The Tokyo Game Show wrapped up on Sunday evening after a four-day run during which visitors got a chance to try out some of the hottest upcoming video games from Japan's major publishers.

Attendance at the show totaled 193,040 people this year, which is a jump of about 600 although the actual number of individuals attending the show was likely down. That's because the attendance figures are compiled per day so someone attending Thursday and Friday is counted each day.

This year's show was a day longer that 2006. The "business day," which is open to those from the video game industry and related media, was expanded to cover two days while the "public days" occupied the weekend as usual.

The extra day meant the business days was slightly less crowded than last year.

On the public days attendance was down sharply on Saturday. That's likely because the 2006 event was the first time members of the public had to try out the PlayStation 3. In contrast, there wasn't nearly as big a draw at the 2007 event.

The organizers don't appear to be necessarily sold on a four-day event. In a statement marking the end of the show they said the 2008 event will begin on either October 9 or October 10 and run until October 12.
