ABC News App Available in Amazon App Store for Kindle Fire

You can now get the ABC News Android app for the Kindle Fire.

July 24, 2012 — -- Kindle Fire owners no longer have to open their browsers and visit ABCNews.com to get their fill of ABC News articles and content on the tablet.

ABC News' Android app is now available in Amazon's App Store, and more specifically, for the Kindle Fire. The free app has been tailored for the Fire's 7-inch display.

The ABC News Android app has been available in Google's Play Store, making it available for most other Android tablets to date. However, Amazon's tablet, which runs its own tailored version of Android 2.3, does not have access to Google's store.

"We have watched the Kindle Fire become a popular tablet choice and have decided to tailor our Android app for the tablet and make it available in Amazon's App Store," Doug Vance, ABC News' vice president of product strategy, said.

The app, like the Android app available through Google's own Play Store, is full of ABC News stories and videos. It also allows users to easily share from the tablet through integrated Facebook and Twitter tools.

ABC News released a new iPad app in June as well.

"ABC News' mobile page views have grown over 50 percent each month since 2011, and our expansion to the Kindle Fire is the next step in growing our tablet user base," Vance said.

Amazon's Kindle Fire has been the most popular Android tablet to date. The company is expected to release a new Kindle Fire in the coming months to compete with Google's new Nexus 7 tablet, which also has a 7-inch screen and a $200 price point. Apple is also expected to release a smaller version of the iPad this year.

The ABC News app for the Kindle Fire is available right now from the Amazon App Store.
