Musk, the founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, tweeted today he is donating $10 million to the Future of Life Institute for research on how to keep artificial intelligence safe.
He has previously expressed his concern about robots, saying artificial intelligence has the potential to be "more dangerous than nukes."
In a tweet announcing the donation, Musk, 43, said it is "all fun and games" until something goes awry.
Musk joined physicist-cosmologist Stephen Hawking among the high-profile people who signed an open letter earlier this week calling for artificial intelligence not just to be more capable, but also more beneficial to humanity moving forward.
