Facebook 'Dislike' Button: Why It Might Not Be a Thumbs Down
There may be another way for users to show empathy on a post.
— -- Mark Zuckerberg has finally revealed that the oft-requested "dislike" button for Facebook is in the works -- but it's highly possible the feature won't take on the traditional "thumbs down" approach many people have expected.
At a town hall on Tuesday, Zuckerberg said that the company hopes to launch the function soon but said he doesn't want the new tool to allow a down-voting and up-voting system, such as the one in place on Reddit.
The news of the feature had many people excited on social media -- and included a few ideas of what the feature could ultimately look like when it goes public -- and how they could use it.
Whatever form the button takes, Zuckerberg said it comes down to creating another way for people to lend their support when a "like" just doesn't feel right.
"What they really want is the ability to express empathy," Zuckerberg said. "Not every moment is a good moment."
