Who's Ringing the NYSE Bell for (TWTR) Twitter's IPO?
All of Twitter's co-founders and its CEO were on the NYSE floor at the time.
Nov. 7, 2013 -- Mark Zuckerberg may have rang in Facebook's IPO when it debuted last year, but the Twitter IPO went in a different direction.
The company's co-founders Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone and Evan Williams, as well as CEO Dick Costolo, were on the New York Stock Exchange floor when the morning's bell went off. But if you looked to the podium, you would have seen a young girl, a woman and a former starship captain.
Patrick Stewart, seen on the left, is famous for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on the television series "Star Trek: The Next Generation." According to CNBC, the actor said that he was asked to ring the bell, despite having a Twitter account for only a year and a half. He adds that being on Twitter has changed his career and the public's perception of him as "a straight-laced guy." Stewart has over 720,000 followers.
The young girl in the middle is Vivienne Harr, and no, she doesn't have her own social media empire. What she does have is Make A Stand Lemon-aid, a lemonade stand turned company that has raised over $100,000 to end child slavery. Harr's Twitter account has over 22,500 followers.
The woman on the right is the Boston Police department's Bureau Chief of Public Information Cheryl Fiandaca. Fiandaca and the Boston Police used Twitter during the Boston Marathon attack in April of this year to keep the city's citizens informed of what was going on. While Fiandaca only has just under 6,000 followers, the Boston Police department itself has over 260,000.
