Samsung Comes After Apple's Gold With New Galaxy S4 Pictures
Pictures of a gold smartphone were posted on Samsung's social media accounts.
Sept. 25, 2013 -- Can Apple patent a paint job? If so, Samsung might find itself in hot water again from the iPhone company. Some tweets from @SamsungMobileME and @SamsungGulf show pictures of a new and very shiny Galaxy S4 smartphone.
Unlike Apple's gold iPhone 5S, Samsung's Galaxy S4 appears to have the gold along its edge. It's unknown whether the phone's backside will also be decked in gold, but the phone's front side will not. The pictures show two different finishes, one with a dark brown bezel and the other a light pink.
There isn't much information about the phones other than what's been seen on Samsung's social media accounts. There is no official press release or statement, nor is it available for pre-order on Samsung's website.
Twitter users were unsure whether to take the mock up pictures seriously. Facebook users weren't as skeptical. Many Facebook users called the colors beautiful and said whether they preferred brown or pink. Samsung did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for comment about these new phones.
The announcement comes just a little over two weeks after Apple officially announced the gold iPhone 5S. The gold phones are selling well, both in stores and on eBay.
The bright gold seen in the Samsung photos is a different color than the iPhone 5S' muted gold finish. However, given that Samsung has already been ordered to pay Apple over $1 billion in damages over patent infringement, it's not likely that Samsung would want to start a court battle with Apple anytime soon.
