TechBytes: Steve Jobs Resigns From Apple
The CEO steps down, Tim Cook replaces.
August 25, 2011 -- In today's TechBytes, it's the end of an era at Apple. CEO Steve Jobs has resigned, citing his health.
Under his leadership, Apple revolutionized personal technology with the iPod, iPad and iPhone.
Along the way, Apple became the most valuable company in America.
Jobs will be replaced by Tim Cook, who's been running the company in his absence. But CNET editor Molly Wood says it just won't be the same.
"His personal vision is on every single product they make, and it's very clear that he is so passionate about the company and that he personally drives almost everything they do," said Wood.
Jobs has had treatment for pancreatic cancer and received a liver transplant.
Apple's iPhone is one reason that BlackBerry's share of the smartphone market is declining. Now Bloomberg reports the new BlackBerry phones next year will be able to run Android apps.
The Android market has about six times as many programs as BlackBerry's App World.
