Tesla Model 3: When to Expect a First Look at Tesla's Most Affordable Car

The more affordable Tesla Model 3 is in the works.

— -- Get ready for a Tesla for the masses.

While the date is tentative, it's enough to get Tesla admirers dreaming up what to expect from the car, which analysts predict will be priced around $35,000.

The larger battery of the Model S can take the sedan around 270 miles on a single charge, according to Tesla's website.

Musk has previously said the Model 3 will have to be able to travel at least 200 miles in normal driving conditions.

With the Model 3 expected to be around half the cost of the Model S, Brauer said he expects some features -- such as autonomous driving -- won't be included in the cheaper Tesla.

What he does expect, however, is a cohesive Tesla experience that will stand out from the increased competition at the lower price point.

That means a long battery life, a large touchscreen display in the car and driver-assist features, such as smart cruise control, and compelling styling.

Before the Model 3 is released though, Tesla has another big launch to look forward to this summer when Musk said the company will begin taking orders for its Model X SUV.
