Top 10 Most Popular Celebs on Facebook
Lady Gaga is the first living person to reach 10 million fans on Facebook.
July 6, 2010 -- To the list of accolades on pop star Lady Gaga's colorful resume, here's one more she can add: the most popular living person on Facebook.
The singer on Friday reached 10 million fans and is now surpassed only by Michael Jackson.
After hitting the mega milestone, Gaga posted a video to her Facebook page thanking her "little monsters" for their love and support.
Just a year ago, with 3.5 million fans, she was number 6 on the list of the most popular celebrities on Facebook.
She's not the only celebrity to have gained millions of fans on Facebook over the past year. With Facebook's help, we've compiled a list of the top 10 most popular individual celebrities on the social networking site.
Take a look below.
Michael Jackson
Even in death, Michael Jackson continues to be Facebook's most popular celebrity. With 15,048,539 fans, the King of Pop is comfortably ahead of his closest contender, Lady Gaga, by more than 4 million fans.
According to a Facebook spokeswoman, the King of Pop's fan base rose from 800,000 the day before Jackson's June 25, 2009, death, to more than 10 million not even a week later.
Jackson's page includes previously unavailable music videos, and it updated fans on the latest news surrounding tribute events for the anniversary of Jackson's death.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga may take some flack for her oddball fashion sense, but her Facebook fans seem drawn to her no matter what she wears.
On her fan page, she posts about her music career, informing readers about her upcoming tour dates and progress in the studio, and also offers fans the occasional sartorial tidbit.
Only a few days after hitting 10 million fans, it looks like she's about to hit another benchmark. As of Monday morning, the star had 10,968,138 fans (or people who "Like" her) on Facebook.
Vin Diesel
The "Fast and Furious" star also reached a milestone over the holiday weekend.
On Sunday, Vin Diesel hit 10 million fans, announcing on Facebook, "WELCOME TO OUR MILLENIUM!!!"
With frequent status updates, pictures and video clips, the action star has drawn a stellar online following of about 10,300,000 fans.
Barack Obama
A year ago, President Obama was the second most popular person on Facebook, behind only Michael Jackson. This year, he's taken a bit of a dip in his standing.
With about 9,956,860 fans, Obama has fallen to number 4 on the list of most popular people on Facebook.
Run by Organizing for America, Obama's page includes updates on the president's activities and video clips.
Megan Fox
Ever since she graced the screen as the starlet of the blockbuster film "Transformers," the Hollywood vixen has attracted a rabid devotion.
On her Facebook page, the actress is short on words, preferring to post sultry magazine covers and video clips.
But those are apparently enough to satisfy the nearly 8.6 million fans who follow her online.
Cristiano Ronaldo
The Portuguese soccer player is apparently a star on the field and off.
With more than 7 million fans, he's the sixth most popular celebrity on Facebook.
Posting candid comments and pictures from the World Cup events in South Africa, Ronaldo boosted his following and broke into the top 10 list for the first time this year.
After Portugal lost, Ronaldo posted a message to his Facebook fans Saturday: "Thank you for your support during the World Cup. You have all been so great. We will be back stronger."
Later that day, he even took to the social networking site to announce the birth of his son.
Lil Wayne
Another newcomer to the list of the most popular Facebook celebs (he wasn't in the top 10 last year), rapper Lil Wayne is number 7 on this year's list.
The rap and hip hop star has more than 6.7 million fans and appears to actively build his presence on Facebook.
In mid June, when he reached 5 million fans, he thanked them and asked for help in drawing in more.
"We just got 5 million fans on Facebook! I love you. Help me get 5.5 million and Im gonna give you a song I recorded in jail for free."
Justin Bieber
One of the top breakout artists of the year, singer Justin Bieber has also secured a spot among the most popular celebrities on Facebook.
The popular tween has nearly 6.6 million fans on his Facebook page and makes a point to thank his online friends for their support.
After posting a video of him performing "Baby" to his Facebook page, he gave a shout out to his many viewers.
"WOW...over 230 MILLION VIEWS!!! Thank u so much to all those supporting...HECK...I STARTED ON YOUTUBE!! NUTS!!"
Taylor Swift
The 20-year-old crooner who captured the hearts of country music fans, has apparently claimed a giant corner of the online world as well. With more than 6.3 million fans on Facebook, Swift is the ninth most popular celebrity on the site.
Still, despite her massive fandom online and off, it seems that she tries to keep it in perspective, noting on her Facebook page: "I'm not a big deal. At all."
Will Smith
With more than 5.8 million fans on his Facebook page, the TV actor, rapper and movie star rounds out the list of the top 10 most popular celebrities on the social networking site.
Smith keeps his page looking lively with video clips of interviews and movies, as well as status updates about his family and friends.
