Twitter Introduces Mute Button
Perfect to avoid spoiler alerts or celebrity rants on social media.
May 12, 2014 -- Twitter announced today it is introducing a new "mute" button that allows users to silence their friends without unfollowing them.
It's a temporary fix to avoid users who are sounding off about a TV show you haven't seen yet, a sports team you don't care about — or the next time Kanye West goes on an epic Twitter rant.

"In the same way you can turn on device notifications so you never miss a Tweet from your favorite users, you can now mute users you'd like to hear from less," the social network wrote in a blog post today.
Users won't know that you've muted them and they can be unmuted at any time, Twitter said. Their tweets will simply vanish from your timeline when they're muted.
The new feature began rolling out today, and everyone will have it in "coming weeks."
