Funnies: Campaign Song Choices

A look at the best in late night political comedy.

July 6, 2008— -- Here's a roundup of the late night comics.

The Tonight Show

Jay Leno: They say what's driving up the price of oil is the belief in the futures market that there will be a shortage in five years. OK, so raise the price in five years!

The Colbert Report

Stephen Colbert: America will not elect a president who doesn't belong to some religious organization. That would be like having a president who went to an Ivy League school but doesn't have a fake Southern accent.

The Tonight Show

Leno: Remember the Clintons had "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow." Now Barack Obama, here's an Obama rally. I guess he's got U2, Here listen. (plays song) "It's a Beautiful Day." And today, they unveiled John McCain's new campaign song, can we show that? (plays song) "Viva Viagra."

Late Night

Conan O'Brien: President Bush gave a news conference about the economy, but he stubbornly refused to say the word, "recession." Yeah, instead President Bush said our country is headed towards something with three syllables that rhymes with refression.

Late Show

David Letterman: A message from Barack Obama. Obama: "Tonight I can stand here and say that I am sick of this campaign." We all agree on one thing: We're all sick of it.

The Colbert Report

Colbert: One of John McCain's biggest challenges as a candidate is distinguishing himself from President Bush. I'm not sure why he's so eager to spurn the president's supporters. I mean, that's walking away from almost 29 percent of the American electorate and nearly half of the Bush children.
