Which City's the Selfie Capital of the World?
If you've been to this city, you probably took a selfie.
May 19, 2014 -- Check your phone. Do you have a selfie in front of Big Ben or Buckingham Palace? If you've been to London, the answer is probably yes. And you're not alone -- London is the capital of the world when it comes to selfies, according to one web site.
Travel site Suggestme.com has researched the most popular places to take a selfie by analyzing 6.3 million social media messages from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, among others. London came out in the top spot, followed by New York and Amsterdam. In New York, top selfie taking spots are Times Square and the Statue of Liberty.
In Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum is a hot spot, with Van Gogh's sunflowers painting being particularly popular.
Barcelona, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Sydney, Istanbul, and Athens are the cities that complete the top 10. "In the Louvre there is a statue that is an immensely popular selfie spot, due to the fact that it looks like the statue itself is taking a selfie," Suggestme noted.
At Sydney's Wild Life Sydney Zoo, there's a special camera in the koala bear enclosure that reportedly allows the bears to actually take their own selfies. But since the animals can't post to social media, those don't count in selfie credits.
Sydney's koala bears aren't the only animals taking selfies. Check out this photo gallery of wild animals taking their own photos.
