Spend the Night on This Tricked-Out Plane
You might actually get some sleep on this plane.
-- For those who travel primarily in cattle, uh, economy class, sleep is elusive.
Airbnb has partnered with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to offer the chance to stay overnight on a tricked-out plane at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport. The plane has an almost 4,000 square-foot interior decked out with play area for the kids, a master bedroom, eight bathrooms, a private cinema and two fully equipped kitchens.
This isn't a long-term opportunity: the plane is available for stays for three nights only (November 28-30). It's also not an experience money can buy. People have to enter a contest on Airbnb explaining why they deserve a one-night stay. There will be three winners.
The stunt is part of Airbnb's “Night At” initiative, "designed to unlock places around the world where it’s never before been possible to stay." So far, this has included an IKEA store in Australia, the French Chateau Chenonceau, and a Waterstones bookstore in the UK. This particular KLM plane has crossed the world 3,675 times, according to Airbnb.
Winners need not be local. KLM will fly them from anywhere in the world.
