Revisit Woodstock in N.Y., return to Apollo 11 in Houston

— -- Two pending 40th anniversaries certain to make the most youthful Baby Boomers feel a tad rusty: the Woodstock Festival and the first moon landing.

Noting that the first word uttered by astronaut Neil Armstrong upon stepping out of Apollo 11 on July 20, 1969, was "Houston" (followed by "The Eagle has landed"), Space City has a constellation of commemorative events coming up. Among them: What's billed as the largest land-based fireworks show in the nation on July 4 salutes the mission and includes NASA exhibits and a message from the space station. Facing Mars, an exhibit through Sept. 2 at the Health Museum, features a simulated Mars walk, among other interactive experiences. Over at Max Yasgur's former farm near Woodstock, N.Y., nostalgia of a different sort takes center stage on Aug. 15 with the Bethel Woods Music Festival, starring Woodstock performers such as Jefferson Starship, Ten Years After and Canned Heat. The performance pavilion and a museum that opened last year are on the original site of the Woodstock festival.
