$1.5 Million Vacation May Be World's Most Expensive
Travelers looking for vacation bragging rights need look no further.
March 21, 2013 -- Travelers looking for the ultimate in vacation bragging rights need look no further than a two-year, around-the-world vacation being offered by the web site VeryFirstTo.com.
VeryFirstTo.com claims this £990,000 (just shy of $1.5 million) is, fittingly, given the site's name, the very first of its kind. The price tag, based on two people traveling together, includes, among many other sites, Mexico's ancient city of Monte Alban; the Taj Mahal in India; Petra; Cambodia's Angkor temples; Spain's Moorish Alhambra; the Great Pyramids in Egypt; China's enchanting Forbidden City and Peru's Machu Picchu.

Over the two-year excursion, the couple will visit the 962 UNESCO World Heritage sites. In the United States, this includes sites like Yellowstone National Park, the Statue of Liberty, Yosemite and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, among others. Air travel will be in business class.
The lucky (rich) couple will stay in such venerable hotels like Sandy Lane in Barbados, the Hotel George V in Paris, New York City's The Plaza, The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai; Venice's Cipriani Hotel and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Moscow.
There have been two parties that have expressed interest in the trip so far, VeryFirstTo's founder Marcel Knobil told ABC News. The site caters to a small demographic of people, however. Knobil said it's a "haven for wealthy luxury enthusiasts, especially early adopters."
Because the logistics of a trip like this are so complicated, VeryFirstTo has enlisted the services of luxury travel agency Hurlingham Travel.
But is the "Ultimate Journey" the world's most expensive vacation? Maybe not.
Luxury cruise line Silversea offered an around-the world cruise that called on 28 countries for roughly the same price tag. The four-month voyage began on Jan. 4 and is currently in progress. That trip included a private helicopter pickup at your home with served $5,000 in Beluga caviar; a flight on a private charter complete with bedroom, lounge and dining to L.A., all while feasting on a 10-course tasting menu; the Royal Suite "cabin" onboard the ship with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining area and two verandas; pre- and post-cruise stays: first for four nights at the Beverley Wilshire Hotel and after the cruise for four nights at the $10,000-per-night apartment set in the exclusive, gated community on Sunset Island, Miami, Fla. Yes, it included a private butler.
A donation of £5000 – about $7,500 – will be made to UNESCO.
