Seven Lamest Holidays Ever

These holidays will leave you scratching your head wondering: Why?

Dec. 20, 2010— -- Christmas, New Year's Eve and Thanksgiving are some of the best-known and widely-celebrated holidays. But almost every day of the year is actually a holiday -- just not ones involving celebrations that most people know about or even care about.

There's a special day for answering your cat's questions and one to honor hypnotism. There's even a "Show and Tell Day at Work."

Why do people bother to celebrate? We don't know but they may be assured that somewhere, some lone sole might be rejoicing over National Handwriting Day.

It took us a lot of time and research but below is a list of some of the lamest holidays out there. These were so many that we decided to limit this list just to those that occur in January. Yes, there are just that many odd events that we celebrate. Maybe we should start our own holiday to celebrate them, but then, that would be really lame.

I'm Not Going to Take It Anymore Day: Deejay Bob O'Brien came up with the idea for this holiday after speaking to listeners of his all-request show AM radio. Each year on Jan. 7 – "seven is a very lucky number for me," O'Brien told ABC News – he encourages people to fight back and take control of all events that happen in one's life. The idea: stand up for your rights.

"On that day, they're supposed to respectively make a list of their gripes," O'Brien explained. Then one by one go down the list and -- in a respectful way -- try to resolve them.

"People need to take back whatever's bothering them," O'Brien said. "You need to address it. People tend to build up steam."

While we agree with the general idea of not letting grudges build, do we really need an entire day for this? Is an entire day really enough? What happens if you have a new gripe the next day? Do you have to wait 364 days to resolve it? At this point in our lives, we should all be adult enough to deal with our problems as they occur.

Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day: Pop. Pop. Pop. We all love to play with this packing material but really, an entire day dedicated to Bubble Wrap?

The holiday -- we use that term loosely here -- is described as "a day to celebrate the joy that Bubble Wrap brings to our lives. A day to learn the history and snapping etiquette and to gain a new appreciation of the country's favorite shipping material, invented in 1960."

Don't we have other things to worry about in the world? Nope. Our lives really are this pathetic. Have fun on this day, the last Monday in January, just don't pop too much bubble wrap while your friends and co-workers and trying to concentrate. Remember: nobody likes a person who can't learn how to the use Bubble Wrap responsibly.

National Clean Off Your Desk Day: The idea behind this holiday, which falls on the second Monday in January, is to start the New Year with a clean desk so all that new paperwork can find a spot to pileup. However, we think that if you are only cleaning off your desk once a year, well it might take more than a day to help you get rid of some of that clutter. And if you are the type of person who has a messy desk, are you really going to observe some obscure holiday?

Belly Laugh Day: Yes this is an entire day to celebrate the gift of laughing. Smiling and laughing are permitted, encouraged and celebrated. It happens each year on Jan. 24 -- 1:24 p.m. local time to be precise -- and the idea is to send a laugh around the world. People are supposed to laugh in kitchens, schools, hospitals, offices, factories, stores or wherever they are.

Has life become so mundane that we have forgotten to laugh? We doubt it. Go ahead and laugh now even though it's not Belly Laugh Day. See, that wasn't so hard.

National Hugging Day: Who doesn't like a good hug? That's what this Jan. 21 holiday is all about. (Careful readers will also note that Jan. 21 is also Belly Laugh Day. Can you laugh and hug at once? That might be too much to ask.)

The holiday is sold this way: "Hugging is something everyone can do and because it is a healthful form of touching, this day should be spending hugging anyone who will accept a hug, especially family and friends."

Just be careful who you decide to randomly hug.

National Thank God It's Monday Day: Besides holidays such as Presidents Day being celebrated on Monday, people everywhere start new jobs, have birthdays, celebrate promotions and begin vacations on Mondays. So Dorothy Zjawin of Roselle Park, N.J. decided to create a day in recognition of this first day of the week.

What's next, a Tuesday holiday? Well, that would make logical sense but be equally as pointless.

Kid Inventors Day: Television, water skies, earmuffs and the popsicle were all invented by kids. So this holiday is celebrated each Jan. 17, the birthday of Benjamin Franklin, who invented the first swim flippers almost 300 years ago at age 12.

Ben Franklin didn't need a special holiday to start inventing and neither should your kids.
