Woman Files Civil Lawsuit Against Bill Cosby

March 8, 2005 — -- The woman who accused Bill Cosby of sexually molesting her has filed a civil lawsuit against the entertainer.

The woman, Andrea Constand, filed the lawsuit with the U.S. District Court in Philadelphia today. The lawsuit includes five counts alleging battery, assault, infliction of emotional distress, defamation and invasion of privacy.

Last month, prosecutors in Montgomery County declined to bring criminal charges against the 67-year-old entertainer, saying they found insufficient evidence to support the woman's claims.

The civil complaint alleges that Cosby gave Constand three blue pills when she told him she was stressed out, saying they were an herbal remedy. Lawyers for the woman, a former Temple University employee who now lives in her native Canada, say they now believe the pills were some form of narcotic.

The complaint alleges that Cosby rubbed the woman's breasts and genital areas and "digitally penetrated" her, meaning with his finger.

The lawsuit also alleges that Cosby called the woman and her mother at least four times after the alleged incident, and apologized and offered the woman money.
